What is Autism Spectrum Disorder?
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a brain-based disorder that can cause communication and social challenges. The severity of symptoms and the effects of ASD are different for each person. People with ASD may communicate, interact, behave and learn in ways that are different from others. The abilities of people with ASD can range from gifted to severely challenged. Autism is about 4.5 times more likely to affect boys than girls.
What are the early signs of Autism?
6-months
- Doesn’t reach for objects
- Shows no affection for caregivers
- Doesn’t respond to sounds around her/him
- Doesn’t make vowel sounds (eh, ah, oh)
- Doesn’t laugh or squeal
9 months
- Doesn’t look where you point
- Doesn’t respond to their name
- Doesn’t play back and forth games
12 months
- Doesn’t point to things
- Doesn’t learn gestures like waving bye bye, or shaking head yes or no
- Doesn’t search for things that she sees you hide
- Doesn’t say single words like mama, dada, up, bye, this, that, juice

RLLC not only offers typical speech and language therapy services but we also specialize in reading, testing, and dyslexia intervention. Our services are individualized to meet your child’s needs. Once we evaluate your child we create a treatment plan and begin the therapy process.

Intensive therapy works best! We all know that consistency and frequency makes all the difference when trying to reach our goals. RLLC takes this same approach for therapy. We offer intensive therapy during the school year as well as during the summer months. In the summertime, we are able to offer small group programs and camps.

Embarking on the journey to find the right programs and therapists can be a daunting task. At RLLC we offer free parent seminars that help the parents gain a better understanding of their child’s needs, the IEP process and how best to advocate.
