Dyslexia Therapy or Dyslexia Tutoring?
The answer to this is easy, Therapy.
Dyslexia is a language-based learning disorder that is biological in nature and has no cure. Children with dyslexia need consistent, explicit instruction through frequent sessions done by a trained speech language pathologist (SLP).
SLPs are board-licensed and certified individuals who are trained to understand the building blocks of language that are necessary to become a reader. Meaning, SLPs address reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
Tutors do not have a background in speech and language disorders, which directly impact dyslexia. This is why students with dyslexia see little to no change with tutoring.
Let’s look at it this way, if you had two individuals in front of you, one with a cut and the other with a broken arm, you wouldn’t give them both a bandaid and walk away, right? They need different forms of care, one a band-aid and one a doctor’s trip to receive a cast. The same goes for a child with dyslexia.
Children with dyslexia need more specialized aid than children without dyslexia. Our therapists are trained to provide that specialized care.
